Ode To My IPhone 4
I had a cell phone, simple and small,
For babysitters only, when they might deign to call.
That’s all I needed, or so I thought,
Until my hubbie, the IPhone, he bought.
“Uh oh!” I thought, “my Unplugged Life is in danger!”
“Daily technology is here, and no longer a stranger!”
I was shocked as I snapped that 3G is … cool.
What an awesome and cute little net learning tool!
I can listen to radio (vive!) from France in my car,
and keep up with my blog from here, there, and far.
I can see Earth from space, and the clouds that cover it,
Get all the news - a lot, or just a little bit.
I need no window to know if it’s cloudy or sunny
There’s a new app for that, it’s really quite funny!
With my kids I just sighed, looked down and shrugged.
From now on bear with me, we’re Semi-Unplugged.

Too funny! We’re semi-unplugged, too. The only tv channels we can receive without purchasing an antenna or paying for cable are educational channels, which my son enjoys very much, and we use plenty of internet, although a lot of that is educational, too. Although I was shocked when we were internet-less for a week recently (ISP closed) to realize just how internet dependent I am. Weather predictions, recipes, reading the grocery ads, managing my library checkouts and reserves, and lots more.
I have a fun and creative IPhone recommendation for you! We have the actual cubes version of this creative writing app and it’s lots of fun for a wide range of ages. http://www.storycubes.com/

Oh that app looks really cool! Thanks for the recommendation. BTW, I would have a hard time with no internet for a week also. Like you I check the weather, the news, recipes (and I am ashamed to say my blog and Facebook too).

As a new smart phone user, you NEED to see this, too! Unless you change the settings, photos posted online may contain GPS locations of where they were taken. There are instructions at the end on how to change the settings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2vARzvWxwY

Wow Karen! Thanks for letting me know about this! I immediately checked my settings and my location services were already “off” for the camera. I wonder if Apple realized the danger and changed the default settings on the new phones? Definitely food for thought and thanks again for sharing this with me!!
